Emma Somerset Davis
Live performance, Paintings & Drawings
14-29 May 2022

Within the Garden of Hope and Dreams is an exhibition of Emma’s paintings, drawings and sculpture, made through her recent performances in relation to a series of landscapes. A live performance will take place on the opening night which will be screened throughout the duration of the show.
Emma creates live performances making painting, drawing and sculpture through an embodied practice. She works through movement, colour-fields, mark-making, expression and rhythm. Emma’s artwork is a drawing out of emotion through a felt and durational relationship with materials, spaces, colour, time and sound. Her work is autobiographical, and is inspired through encounters with landscapes, places and interiors that are liminal and in between.
Emma works in the UK and internationally, within landscapes, and public spaces, as well as in galleries and interiors, and is included in many major public and private collections. She performs and exhibits widely including Manifesta, Venice Biennale, ICA, Tate Gallery, V & A, Edinburgh Festival, Vienna Succession and PS1, NY.
Emma studied at Chelsea College of Art (BA Hons) Fine Art; Camberwell College of Art (MA Fine Art) and Royal College of Art (Fine Art: Artists Research in Painting and Performance).
